Grateful!

As November starts, I want to stop and take a moment to thank you. Yes, you. The mom/dad/guardian/family member that is reading this. Why am I thanking you, you are asking yourself? I am thanking you for trusting me every day with your precious child. For sending them to school well taken care of, for feeding them, working with them, for loving them. Thank you! In these 50 days of school I have come to love each and every one of your children. I worry when they are sick or when they are not acting like they normally do. I celebrate each small and big success every day. They have become part of my life and my story.
I am a parent too, and I realize all of the little things that we do for our children and sometimes we think that nobody notices. Yet they do; those little eyes are watching and storing in their hearts everything that we do in their sight.
This is my first year at Birnham Woods and every day I am surprised and blessed by the kindness that you as parents are showing me. Thank you for the little notes of appreciation, for participating in the wacky things that we ask you to do, for cooperating and pitching in when there is a need and sometimes even before there is one. Thank you for welcoming me and for showing me where your little one gets that big heart from.
You have no idea how much your words of encouragement mean to me. Thank you for the treats, the pictures you allow your children to draw and bring to me, for responding to my emails and calls, thank you for caring for your child and showing it; this year all of you are a teacher's dream.

Some of you might be thinking what got into Mrs. Cox, why is she getting all mushy. I just had to pause in my busy/hectic/crazy/ amazing teacher life and thank you as we start November, the month when we usually do an inventory for all the things that we are grateful for. I am grateful for you and for the little part of you that shakes my hand at the door and smiles at me every morning.
I challenge you to find one thing that you are thankful for in your own life and talk to your child about gratefulness. We will be talking about one thing that we are thankful for each day in November.
All of you are invited to our Thanksgiving luncheon on November 16. Come if you can as we celebrate Thanksgiving and eat yummy food.
As you clean out your pantry or are shopping for groceries, please remember to send in some donations for our food drive benefiting needy families right here in Spring/The Woodlands. Our children were so proud when they dropped in their canned goods into the food drive box this morning.
I am so proud of what they do, I know that you are too!
Like Dr. Butler reminds us every morning: "Because of all you do, B.W.E is the best place to be."
