Around the room

We are counting to 100 every day in school, and if your child can count to 100 all by themselves (without prompting) their name goes up on this display and they get to go into the treasure box.

There have been more names added since this pic!
We are also continually working on number sense. Not all children who come to kindergarten counting to 5 or 10 or more have a good understanding of what the numbers mean. They are also unsure of how to sequence sets of numbers. For example: students need to have many experiences playing with five objects to build up an intuitive understanding of the number 5.
Here is a number sense activity:

Bulldog tokens were getting misplaced or lost and Carlos's mom made this wonderful token display (Mrs. O'connor had it on her wall, thank you fellow k-teacher!) and now our Bulldog tokens are safe and sound! If you don't know what Bulldog tokens are, they are a school wide incentive that rewards students caught being a great Bulldog!

Every Monday we choose new classroom helpers. Usually the star of the week is the line leader. Our students love having a job and they rise to the challenge by being responsible!
Here Emma found a 3-d shape after learning about 3d shapes. Look for the 3d shapes rap on youtube, they know it very well!

Book Fair

Going to the book fair was fun as we were exposed to so many interesting and appealing books. Thank you for buying books for the classroom and for sending in gift certificates;we received 25 new books! Also, thank you so much if you came to volunteer for the book fair! The Shining Stars enjoyed the experience!

5 Senses

A few weeks ago one of our student teachers that has been coming and observing actually gave the class a lesson on the five senses. They used their 5 senses to find out what she had brought in to show them. It was sugar and salt, and it was really neat listening to them describe them. Here are some pictures:

I was able to salvage some Boosterthon pictures in case you were not able to make it that day, this is what our day looked like. Thank you again for all of the pledges!

Star of the Week

Peyton is our Star of the Week this week. She has been talking about her family and showed us a special bracelet.

Star of the Week

Gabriel was also a Star of the Week. He showed us part of his collection of Angry Birds. He enjoys drawing and writing.
